From September 21st to 23rd, the 2024 Fourth Hunan Provincial General Undergraduate University Ideological and Moral Teaching Competition, hosted by the Hunan Provincial Department of Education and co-organized by our university in partnership with the Teaching Management Professional Committee of the Hunan Higher Education Society, and with assistance from the Higher Education Press, was successfully held on our campus. The teaching teams of Chen Bo from the School of Mechanical Engineering, Li Jing from the School of Textile and Apparel Engineering, Deng Renjie from the School of Materials and Chemical Engineering, Wang Sailan from the School of Computational Science and Electronic Engineering, and Wei Danyi from the School of Foreign Languages won first prizes; while the teaching teams of Hu Xianglan from the School of Management, Lei Ting from the School of Civil Engineering and Architecture, and Wang Yanan from the School of Design and Art won second prizes.
This competition lasted for more than five months. After rigorous selections at the school level and provincial level, 90 contestants from 38 undergraduate universities qualified for the finals. The finals were divided into three groups: liberal arts group, the group of science, engineering, agriculture, and medicine, and the group of foreign languages, covering six sub-groups including humanities and social sciences, economics, management, and law, science, agriculture, and medicine, engineering, college English, and English majors. The live competition comprised three parts: lesson plan presentation, teaching demonstration, and Q&A. During the lesson plan presentation, contestants had to elaborate on their ideological and moral teaching designs. In the teaching demonstration, contestants randomly selected a lesson from their submitted teaching design materials for a 5-minute on-site presentation. The Q&A session required contestants to respond to judges' questions on the spot. With clear lesson plan presentations, impressive demonstrations, and swift on-site responses, the contestants earned high praise from the judges. After a day of intense competition, the finals resulted in 33 first-prize winners and 57 second-prize winners. Our university, along with 10 other institutions including the National University of Defense Technology, won the Outstanding Organization Award.
Since the school-level competition began in April, our university has attached great importance to this competition. The Academic Affairs Office meticulously organized it, while all colleges actively cooperated, and participating teachers gave their best efforts. A total of eight contestants successfully qualified for the finals. During the preparation period, participating teachers underwent multiple rounds of training and polishing lesson plans, teaching demonstrations, teaching designs, and teaching slides by consultexperts. This not only refined their entries but also enhanced their teaching abilities.
This competition not only vividly demonstrates our university's teaching capability but also enlarge the influence of our school. Taking this opportunity, our university will further promote the in-depth implementation of ideological and moral education in courses and comprehensively improve the quality of education and teaching.
